The day before Nyepi, each village in Bali constructs anĀ Ogoh Ogoh statue to represent evil spirits. The villages then carry the Ogoh through their village with much beating of drums and other loud noise to frighten off the evil spirits which followed by Nyepi (silence day) is the beginning of the Balinese New Year. Each village then joins other villages with their Ogoh, and a parade through the area is an amazing site. Look at the video of a 2008 Ogoh parade
